Why do we experience Déjà Vu ? 😲

You walk into a room and see someone talking.... And then it hits you, you have experienced this moment before! I am sure that allot of us have been in such a situation. However, there is a scientific explanation for this too!  Many scientists believe that this is some sort of a short circuit or a malfunction in our brain. Theory #1: There are many theories surrounding this phenomenon. The first one revolves around the concept of familiarity. The fact that the brain might confuse it with something that we are familiar with instead of something that we remember distinctly. Theory # 2: 🔬 The other theory is about delay processing in the brain! The fact that the brain might process the signal twice, hence making us feel like we have seen or experienced the situation before. Overall, the cause of  Déjà Vu is still disputed upon.  Biology 0610 IGCSE: Transport in Plants Questions that will help you ace the exam💖

  So, this blog will address a few questions regarding the biology IGCSE topic: transport in plants. Hopefully, this will help you prepare for the easiest and hardest questions that can appear in your exam. 😀 If you have any further questions regarding this topic, please comment down below.

Question 1: Explain the mechanism for the movement of water in the xylem vessels.

(Difficulty: Medium) Ans: 💬

When the water evaporates from the areas of the plants, there will be less water in the xylem vessels present on top. So, therefore, the top xylem vessels would create a force (transpiration pull) to pull water up from the bottom xylem vessels. Due to this, the water molecules move with the help of cohesion and adhesion forces in between the water molecules and the xylem vessels.
 
The following one is a very common question (it is often paraphrased),
 
Q: State the features of palisade and spongy mesophyll cells that help them contribute to photosynthesis.
Ans: Palisade Mesophyll cells are arranged end to end, which means that the walls are touching together. This generally helps them to perform maximum photosynthesis as the chloroplasts are near the cell wall.
Example: Do not make diagrams as answers in the IGCSE Biology paper. This diagram is just for your understanding.
 
 


Spongy mesophyll cells have a large surface area so as to exchange gases like CO2 and O2.
 
They also help in the evaporation of water vapor from the area of the plants.
 
Q: What characteristics of xylem vessels help them efficiently perform their function?
Ans: Xylem vessels are made up of dead cells and have no end walls of nucleoplasm; this generally helps them to ensure that the water moves without hinderance in the xylem vessels. Secondly, the xylem vessels have lignin deposited on them to keep the plant upright so as to support the petiole. Likewise, they also have pits to remove air bubbles.
