Switching things up.... let´s talk some science :)
Science is a form of interdisciplinary knowledge, and with the new advancements made in this from robots to AI. Allot of myths have been flying across the front pages of newspapers or articles. After having my own share of applying this misinformation to daily life. I bring to you 10 myths surrounding health and science that are not true, so that you don´t accidently stumble upon them and implement upon them.
Myth :If you throw a penny from a tall building it can harm someone
Throwing a penny from the top of a tall building, is very improbable to hit something. Considering that the laws of physics do apply: terminal velocity exists. So the synopsis of all this is that as the penny falls the air resists against it falling and therefore, balances out the force of gravity, thus the constant speed that the penny reaches is known as the terminal velocity of the penny. And I know this sounds very boring, but you have to appreciate physics in this case. Cause I remember how I would actively ask my family member to empty out their pockets before we go outside and sit on the balcony of a restaurant located 1 or more floors above ground. It sounds very vacuous but it was what it was. 🤣
Myth: Water does conduct electricity
Okay so before you come after me saying that I am spreading myths and that water has ions so it conducts electricity . HEAR ME OUT!!! Yes, water does conduct electricity to some extent due to the presence of ions. However, pure water is not the best conductor of electricity in fact , it is the particles and molecules in the water in impure water like salts and minerals that make it more susceptible to conducting electricity well. (Chemistry lied to me 😢). No, it didn´t it told you the truth it just didn´t gave you in-depth analysis. Pure water doesn´t have enough ions to conduct this electricity in an efficient way.
Myth: Gravity doesn´t exists in space
So, yeah that´s not true. Astronauts are amazing individuals, and they stay afloat in the space, not because there is no gravity, as a matter of fact gravity is everywhere. That´s what caused all the planets to form in the first place. The astronauts stay afloat as they are falling constantly. Wait wait wait, that doesn´t make any sense !! Well, let me help you....... when astronauts are in the space they experience a little less gravity than what we experience at earth. And so they, consistently are pulled towards the Earth , yet since ISS (the international space station) moves sideways, they keep on missing it. This sounds quite intriguing and even peculiar at first but we slowing get to understand how things work, outside the earth.
