Why do we experience Déjà Vu ? 😲

You walk into a room and see someone talking.... And then it hits you, you have experienced this moment before! I am sure that allot of us have been in such a situation. However, there is a scientific explanation for this too!  Many scientists believe that this is some sort of a short circuit or a malfunction in our brain. Theory #1: There are many theories surrounding this phenomenon. The first one revolves around the concept of familiarity. The fact that the brain might confuse it with something that we are familiar with instead of something that we remember distinctly. Theory # 2: 🔬 The other theory is about delay processing in the brain! The fact that the brain might process the signal twice, hence making us feel like we have seen or experienced the situation before. Overall, the cause of  Déjà Vu is still disputed upon. With many scientific theories trying to back it up, it is still something that science needs to completely decode. Anyways that's all for today! Com...

Cystic Fibrosis

What is Cystic fibrosis? - Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disorder. - Caused by mutations in the Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator gene -The movement of water and chloride ions across the cell membrane is managed by the CFTR gene. - It mostly impacts the lungs, pancreas and the digestive system which is inclusive of the stomach. - When the CFTR gene is not present or does not work properly it can cause an excess of mucus to build up in these organs. - As, the mucus traps microbes( bacteria, fungi and viruses), it´s build up can potential lead to chronic infections and etcetera over time. Causes: - Genetically passed on by the parents. Symptoms:  - Frequent lung infections - Difficulty in breathing  - Poor weight despite a balanced diet - and others Although there is no cure, many treatments have been found to manage symptoms  - Antibiotics for infections - Enzyme pills or supplements in order to aid digestion - Chest physiotherapy in order to loosen mucus ...

Alzheimer´s Disease Simplified

What is Alzheimer´s Disease ? A disease associated with the brain that causes memory loss and changes in behavior / thinking of an individual. What causes the disease? -  Two harmful proteins known as amyloid  plaques and tau tangles builds up in the brain adversely, affecting the neurons in the brain(neurons are specialized cells in the brain that help in communication, thinking , remembering and learning). - The probability of a person being affected by the disease increases with age, alongside other risk factors like: genes or even a persons lifestyle.  What are some symptoms ? - Forgetting recent events or familiar names - Finding it hard to do every day tasks - Changes in mood or behavior  - Getting lost in familiar places  Although there is no concrete cure available there are many treatments that can slow down it´s effect. An example of which is "Cholinesterase Inhibitors", essentially they prevent breakdown of a chemical known as acetyl...

Protein Folding

Why does the shape of a protein matter? -  To build a brick building you need all bricks to complement each other .....to scaffold upon each other to make a strong structure. Just like that amino acids, which are the small bricks that make protein need to arrange in a certain manner to make certain proteins. How does protein folding occur?😮 As mentioned above proteins are made when amino acids are arranged in a certain manner in long chains. These chains -ofcourse have to fold to make up a protein shapes. This happens spontaneously and due to repulsion between amino acids and watery environments in the cells. Cells help the protein to fold with the help of chaperone proteins ( chaperone of course after the drivers of the process). These proteins help to prevent misfolding . Why does it even matter?🧐 The type of shape that the protein has determines its functions. - It can act as an enzyme. - It build up hair or nails . - It can be used to transport oxygen in the blood thro...

Science Myths you need to know!!!!

Switching things up.... let´s talk some science :) Science is a form of interdisciplinary knowledge, and with the new advancements made in this from robots to AI. Allot of myths have been flying across the front pages of newspapers or articles. After having my own share of applying this misinformation to daily life. I bring to you 10 myths surrounding health and science that are not true, so that you don´t accidently stumble upon them and implement upon them.  Myth  : If you throw a penny from a tall building it can harm someone  Throwing a penny from the top of a tall building, is very improbable to hit something. Considering that the laws of physics do apply: terminal velocity exists. So the synopsis of all this is that as the penny falls the air resists against it falling and therefore, balances out the force of gravity, thus the constant speed that the penny reaches is known as the terminal velocity of the penny. And I know this sounds very boring, but you have ...
THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR: The Newschool year; for some it is about to begin whilst for others it has already started. It's a universal truth that at the start of the school year, everyone's brimming with motivation, ready to conquer the academic world and make the most of every resource at their disposal. But why? Just why do we end up so tired and overwhelmed right after 2-3 weeks.  That's because: We encompass the same mindset😔 Mindset is the key player when it comes to actually doing something. The first two weeks of school put the least amount of workload on the students. It is often; in the middle of the school year that you find yourself surrounded with piles of assignments. One big mistake that we do, is procrastinating or " even worse the art of delaying". Why do I find it so hard to focus or to keep up. Here are 3 reasons why: 1) You are distracted: Remove distractions from your life such as keeping up with the endless scrolling of your phone. 2) You are ove...
Productivity at its best......😎 How to be productive?  Work efficiently throughout the day. Progress to the best my ability. These are the questions that I often asked myself a few months ago. I would watch endless YouTube videos to refine my habits. I realized that most importantly; all I needed was motivation. Being productive comprises of 4 things in total. 1) Motivation: if you do not find it interesting or fun to do, your daily tasks; then motivation is the only thing you can resort to. Surround yourself with motivation, through books, social media and what not. 2)Putting your mind to it: May you believe it or not some people do find planning before starting a whole lot helpful. Why is that so?  Because it's easier to follow a plan that has been already laid out, instead of doing a task on your own pace. 3) Discipline: This is the one thing that, I have seen a lot of study influencers talk about. It is the art of doing something when you do not feel like it. Prett...
Biology 0610 IGCSE: Transport in Plants Questions that will help you ace the exam💖    So, this blog will address a few questions regarding the biology IGCSE topic: transport in plants. Hopefully, this will help you prepare for the easiest and hardest questions that can appear in your exam. 😀 If you have any further questions regarding this topic, please comment down below. Keep in mind that you should also prepare for the past paper exams available online to effectively prepare for the exam. Comment below on any other subjects you want me to cover in this regard. Q uestion 1: Explain the mechanism for the movement of water in the xylem vessels. (Difficulty: Medium ) Ans: 💬 When the water evaporates from the areas of the plants, there will be less water in the xylem vessels present   on top .   So, therefore, the top xylem vessels would create a   force  (transpiration pull)   to pull water up from the bottom xylem vessels. Due to this,...
